Infielders Josh Bell and Gift Ngoepe were among the players cut from Pirates camp Monday morning.
Bell, a first baseman, and Ngoepe, a shortstop, were optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis. They were joined by infielders Alen Hanson and Max Moroff, outfielder Willy Garcia and pitchers John Holdzkom and Nick Kingham.
Infielders Juan Diaz, Adam Frazier and Dam Gamache were reassigned to minor-league camp.
The Pirates now have 45 players in camp.
Pittsburgh hosts the Minnesota Twins at 1:05 p.m. Saturday at McKechnie Field. Jonathon Niese gets the start for the Pirates against the Twins' Tommy Milone. Mark Melancon, Tony Watson, Neftali Feliz and Eric O'Flaherty are also scheduled to pitch for the Pirates.
